        Established in 1979, the Intensive Language Training Center (ILTC) Sichuan University is one of the 11 language training centers directly under the auspices of the State Ministry of Education.
Under the leadership of both the State Ministry of Education of China and Sichuan University, ILTC has developed into the largest official language training center in the south-western part of China with top teaching quality and most varied kinds of language training programs in English, Japanese, German, Russian, French, Korean, Spanish and Thai. In June 2002, with the ILTC as its base, College of International Studies (CIS) Sichuan University was founded, and has ever since become a well-known center for jointly-run programs with foreign universities such as Glasgow University, UK, Victoria University and University of New Southwales, Australia, etc.
        Since 1979, ILTC has trained tens of thousands of students sent by the State Ministry of Education and those sent by various enterprises and organizations, some of whom have become leaders at various levels and core members in their fields.
        Since 2002, through jointly-run programs with foreign universities, CIS has sent hundreds of students to some famous foreign universities for further studies. The assessments from the State Ministry of Education prove that CIS has provided top quality training and has a high passing rate in foreign language tests. CIS /ILTC has earned a reputation of 'an excellent base for international education and foreign language training and a solid bridge to the outside world.

CIS/ILTC is mainly engaged in training state-sponsored candidates who are going abroad. It has been authorized as the language training base by the following companies, organizations, universities and government departments: Organization Department of Sichuan Provincial Committee of Chinese Communist Party, Organization Department of Chengdu Municipal Committee of Chinese Communist Party, Public Health Department of Sichuan Province, Sichuan University, China University of Geo-science, China Second Heavy Machinery Group Corporation, China Chengda Engineering Corporation, South-west Branch of Air China, Chengdu Designing and Research Institute of Building Materials, Geophysics Prospecting Company of Sichuan Petroleum Bureau, and Sichuan Provincial Hospital, etc. CIS/ILTC also offers bilingual teaching training programs to university teachers, as well as 'Buffet Programs' for the post-graduate and undergraduate students. IELTS, GRE, BEC, New TOEFL (IBT), JLPT, CET4 and CET6 Training Programs pave the way for those who wish to study abroad. Employees from various enterprises and other self-financed individuals can also find suitable language training programs here in ILTC.

Foreign Language Tests
Also established in CIS/ILTC is 'The Foreign Languages Testing Center'. All major tests of foreign languages are held here such as New TOEFL (IBT ), GMAT, GRE, WSK (PETS-5, NTD for German), BEC, Cambridge KET/PET/FCE, IELTS, JLPT, BFT, NAETI and CATTI.

CIS has been administering jointly-run programs with the following foreign universities: Master programs with University of Glasgow and Loughborough University UK, undergraduate programs with Victoria University of Australia, Nottingham Trent University and University of East Anglia of Britain, the 2.5-year program with Japan Aviation Technical College, and Australian University Foundation Year with the University of New South Wales Australia. These programs have provided Chinese high school graduates and university undergraduates with a safe and economical way to pursue further studies abroad.

Now, all faculty members at CIS/ILTC are working hard to make the center an excellent platform for the internationalization of education in Sichuan University and a first class foreign language training center in China. CIS/ILTC has set the following overall development guidelines:'Fully master our internal strength; Remain steadfast to cope with changing circumstances; With Sichuan University Campus as our base, seek support with contribution; Strive to capture markets; Depend on our own strength to achieve development'. CIS/ILTC has firmly established the concept that quality is the lifeline.
In the future, CIS/ILTC will carry out the following projects: 'High Ranking Group Training Project', 'Brand Building Project of Joint Programs with Foreign Universities'; 'Sichuan University Teachers' Foreign Language Training Project'; 'Foreign Language Learning 'Buffet' Project for Post-graduate and Undergraduate Students'; 'Sichuan University Foreign Language Learning Atmosphere Creating '211'Project'; 'Teaching Quality Assurance Project'; 'Student-Oriented Management Innovation Project'; 'Resource Exploring Project', etc.
